A Seller’s Motivation

We’ve often discussed the motivation to buy when it comes to homeownership, but what about the motivation to sell? At first thought, a growing family or life transitions and changing needs come to mind, but what other factors contribute to the decision to put your home on the market? In a recent survey by Realtor.com researchers, they found that the top motivation to sell is the desire to be in a different neighborhood. Other reasons include needing a bigger home or needing to lower the cost of living. However, these motivations vary across different age groups as well. Something to note is that the biggest factors standing in the way of today’s sellers include time, making necessary improvements in their existing home in order to sell, and finding a replacement home to purchase. Read up on all of the findings of the survey here.
